Serena Williams este una din cele mai mari tenismene din istorie, dacă nu cea mai mare. Cu 23 de titluri de Mare Șlem, Serena a avut și momente mai puțin bune, iar acum a mărturisit despre cea mai mare traumă pe care a suferit-o.

În cadrul documentarului „In the Arena: Serena Williams”, cea mai titrată tenismenă din istorie a mărturisit cel mai traumatizant moment din cariera sa, care a avut loc chiar pe pământ american, la US Open, în 2015.

Serena Williams era în cursa pentru al patrulea Grand Slam în 2015, după ce câștigase turneele de la Australian Open, Roland Garros și Wimbledon. Totul părea perfect pentru legenda tenisului american, care urma să se confrunte cu Roberta Vinci în semifinala de la US Open. Atunci a urmat un eșec neașteptat pentru Williams, iar la acea ediție a fost prima finală între două sportive din Italia, Flavia Pennetta câștigând contra Robertei Vinci cu 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.

Trauma Serenei a fost atât de adâncă încât psihologul ei i-a sugerat să nu mai vorbească despre ea niciodată.

„Nu cred că am trecut peste acel eșec de la US Open. Eram atât de furioasă, atât de supărată și atât de dezamăgită pe mine însămi. Nu era nimeni cu 21 de Grand Slam-uri câștigate la acea vreme, dar nu era suficient pentru mine. Nu s-a terminat ca în filme. Și, indiferent cât de mult simt că s-ar putea și ar trebui. Indiferent ce aș putea face altfel, nu a fost povestea mea.

Victoria este atât de plină de farmec, iar toată lumea are impresia că este atât de grozav să câștigi. Este, chiar este. Dar, cu cât câștigi mai mult, cu atât devine mai greu să pierzi. Cred că cel mai greu a fost să le spun copiilor mei”, a mărturisit Serena Williams.

Serena Williams a fost una din cele mai longevive jucătoare de tenis

Serena Williams a câștigat 23 de titluri de Grand Slam de-a lungul carierei sale, patru medalii olimpice de aur și a petrecut 319 săptămâni în calitate de lider al clasamentului WTA. Serena a câștigat titluri la simplu pe parcursul a patru decenii, după ce primul său titlu a fost la Open Gaz de France din Paris, în 1999, iar în 2020 a câștigat competiția de la Auckland Classic.

Serena Williams a jucat 33 de finale de Grand Slam, iar Williams este cea mai vârstnică jucătoare care s-a impus la un Grand Slam, după victoria de la Australian Open, în 2017, când avea 35 de ani și 4 luni și 2 zile.
